Following on from my last post about this years Pint of Science Festival, I have just found this wonderful video about Birefringence or Double Defraction. It is from University of Nottinghams YouTube series Sixty Symbols'. This is a very clear explanation by Professor Mike Merrifield. Much better than any textbook definition I've ever read.
